    Hi Millwall,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but rentals in Turkey are nororiously hard to let - especially in Altinkum where's there shedloads of empty apartments standing - including newly built ones developers can't get rid of.

I'm not sure what the agent told your family, but part of the patter is that you can guarantee a rental income. That is not true! It's nigh impossible on finding people who want to rent them for holidays - however cheaply you market them.

Another factor you need to consider is that Altinkum is probably the least popular resort in the whole of Turkey. It's very built up full of unattractive grey concrete buildings and the area in general is flat, tacky and not at all scenic. This may sound brutal, but you need to know your expectations. You may also like to know that Altinkum is rife with burglaries (they often break in when people are sleeping) so when you yourself go out there be sure to take precautions. Also be careful when drawing money from an ATM - robbers hang around them and either scam your card off you or steal it.

Take a look at the site TurkishLivingForum. It's for expats and visitors of Altinkum and you'll find lots of valuable info on there.

    Good luck anyway.

Hi millwall, many people return to holiday in Altinkum year on year so there is scope for letting your property! As with any popular destination with lots of rental properties there is going to be tough competition.

The key thing is to get your property exposure. To find the best sites to list on you need to find that sites that holidaymakers will find when they search for keywords that are relevant to your property. for example: "apartments in turkey", "apartments turkey" and so on.

Once you have done this then you should start to get an idea of the sites that will bring you the best results. I hope this helps and don't give up!

ps Thermidor, I would like to know the source for the statement "Altinkum is probably the least popular resort in the whole of Turkey". Is this just something you made up or are you referencing some actual research?
