Ok - just clarified this with someone in the know.

You would need to be put on the NHS waiting list by your NHS consultant. Its a real postcode lottery and NHS funding is down to your local PCT.

Different PCTs have varying criteria...some have minimum/maximum age limits, some have BMI limits, majority will say that if you or your partner have a child from current or previous relationship then not entitled to nhs funding and they will have different waiting list times etc etc.

If you still want to investigate whether you're entitled to nhs treatment then speak with your local PCT....

Hope this helps but it would appear that they like to give people the run around :(

Thanks for all of your advice :)

BusyLizzie-Thanks, I do not know whether I need IVF at the moment I just need to be doing something productive in trying to have another little one. I am very lucky to have 2 beautiful daughters aged nearly 4 and nearly 2. I started ttc in May 06, I then had 4 mc's between June 06 and December 06-I had investigations into the mc's and I have now got cyclogest and baby aspirin to take when I next get pregnant but at the moment I can't seem to get pregnant. I know 5 cycles is not a long time especially when many couples have spent years ttc but I can't help but worry that it will take ages and then I will mc again. I feel like it is never going to happen. I just want to be prepared that if I have to have IVF then I will know whether we need to start saving if it cannot be dsone on the NHS. I have spoken to my doctor but I haven't asked about IVF.

the devil made me do it-Thanks, I have already been seen by a gyn due to the recurrent mc's, my doctor says that he will refer me for failure to concieve after 1 year after the last mc.

Tashja-Thanks, I am 25, dh 34 and we have 2 daughters. I will contact the PCT on monday to see what the criteria is. One of my friends said that our area do not do ivf on the nhs? Is there anything that can be done about this?

Good Luck OP and everyone else who is ttc :)

Very little can be done as far as I can see - I've brought this discrepancy up on the boards in the past too :(

    Hi Pinky

I am sorry to say hun that if you are going to need IVF then it is highly unlikely you will get it on the NHS as you already have 2 children :(

As far as I can see you have a little way to go yet before you need IVF anyway.

If you are not sucessful for the next couple of months then it might be worth seeing your GP and look in to the posability of Clomid. Might also be worth seeing of they will give you some more investigations such as a Laparoscopy to check thet your miscarriages haven't had an adverse effect on your tubes and some tests to check that you are ovulating. Also as unusual as it seems (but it does happen) has your partner had a sperm count check ???

You should get the investigations and possibly the Clomid on the NHS but just be aware that these things do take a lot of time on the NHS.

Hope this helps a bit. Please feel free to ask if there is anything else I can help you with.

    T xx
