Do they work as bird scarers, and if so where can I buy them cheap?

Hello, I got a couple of these about three years ago and they didn't work. They had shiny beady eyes but unfortunately after about a week the eyes fell out. We still have them in our garden purely for decorative purposes - my little niece loves them ... don't think I would buy them again .. sorry ... you may have better luck though ..:jMortgage FreeSave £5,000 in 2020[CENTER:j0 -

The best bird scarers that work for me are children's windmills.
My most effective one is made of silver foil, it's big and it whizzes like mad at the slightest breeze. They don't like it one little bit!
Small windmills are no good - they don't make enough noise when they whizz around.
The other tip came from Alys Fowler's BBC programme. She stuck some bird feathers into a potato and hung it near her precious crops. I haven't tried it yet - I haven't collected enough feathers - but I will.

Get some old CDs and draw big eyes on them, then drill a hole near the edge, tie on fishing line, or similar, and suspend.
Mine flutter around happily over the calabrese. At various times of the day, with the sunlight flashing on them, I get a free light show too.

Have not tried cats , but have had success with large plastic owl . I know it sounds ridiculous but after trying everything else , was desperate.
It worked for me.0 -
I made a toy owl out of feathery stuff and put 2 CD's as eyes. Looked dead scary sitting there in the bushes next to the soft fruit.
Didn't work in the slightest though

When did ever see an owl in a bush ?
Needs to be higher ( tree /wall)0 -
I have a large metal owl that sits on the shed roof, and it does tend to keep birds out the garden. (I do actually like birds, but having 5 cats I reckon it's safer to keep them away!)0
