Charges for exceeding authorised overdraft limit.

My wages go into a joint account, which is my only account, and the one that all of the bills come out of.
My wife has a separate bank account which she usually uses whenever she is shopping, though of course she has access to the joint account if ever she needs to. I tend to be in control of the finances most of the time
Shortly before I got paid last week, my wife spent £100 or so out of the joint account which I wasnt aware of, and this took us over my overdraft limit for three or four days until I got paid.
I had a letter today to say that I am being charged £75 for this. Now, I have no problem with accepting that I am completely at fault, but £75 seems excessive to me. Is this a normal and reasonable charge?

Reasonable, probably not, but perfectly legal and in accordance with the terms and conditions of your account.0 -

No problem with accepting responsibility. I just thought the charge seemed excessive. I'm with First Direct. I think the account is called a 1st AccountDebt free since December 2015. It can be done0 -
You can try to get the charge refunded as it's only the frist time try to get hold on a manager in cutomer service and see if he/she will refund the £75.No problem with accepting responsibility. I am assuming HSBC and FD have the same charging structure.
The £75 wouldn't have been one charge. It would have been 3 charges of £25.
You get a £25 charge whenever you use your account when it's in it's unauthorised overdraft.0 -
