Broadband extension

I am moving my PC at home from right beside the BT master socket into one of the bedrooms, any tips on what is the best telephone cable to use, so far I have been pointed in the direction of Cat5 cable. I currently get about 3-5 Mb on an (upto) 8Mb broadband line and I don't want to significantly affect it.

Thanks

Cat 5 is an ethernet cable not a telephone cable. For broadband you don't really want to use a long telephone extension, it tends to degrade the signal quite badly. It would be best running a Cat5 cable from modem/router which is directly connected to the phone line (without extension) to your computer or considering setting up wireless.

Cat5 cable is by far the best you can use for this. It will lose less signal, and suffer less interference than just a normal telephone extension cable.

Yep, I had no end of problems with extensions and my wife giving me jip about the cables. Wireless addressed these problems and I can move the PC to anwhere the good lady wife wants it.
