Can some kind soul tell me if this will be suitable for my Samsung NC10 netbook? I want to upgrade the RAM from 1GB to 2GB.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150453789924&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT "2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 800 MHZ SODIMM MEMORY PC RAM 2GB Product Description: Kingston ValueRAM memory - 2 GB - SO DIMM 200 Pin Storage Capacity: 2 GB Upgrade Type: Generic Technology: DDR2 SDRAM Form Factor: SO DIMM 200-pin Memory Speed: 800 MHz ( PC2-6400 ) Data Integrity Check: Non-ECC Latency Timings: CL5 Features: Unbuffered Supply Voltage: 1.8 V".

On Crucial the NC10's RAM sticks are here (a few listed): http://www.crucial.com/uk/search/searchresults.aspx?keywords=nc10 "DDR2 PC2-6400 • CL=6 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR2-800 • 1.8V • 256Meg x 64" (an example)

To be honest, I don't know the difference between the different specs. Is this worth buying if it does fit?

Thank you :j

Personally I would run SIW and check on the information about Hardware -> Memory.

On the Crucial website you can download their Scanner, an ActiveX program which will tell you which memory cards are compatible with your notebook. They should have the same or very similar information to what comes from SIW.

Also note whether there any free memory slots - if not, you'll have to replace the 1 GB memory card with a 2 GB memory card...

Samsung netbooks only have one slot.
Amazon often recommend this memory for Samsung Netbooks.

That gum you like is coming back in style.

Yes, I know there is only one slot ;) So I'd have to either throw away the 1GB stick or try to sell it. I've got that Amazon Kingston ValueRAM link bookmarked already penrhyn, it looks similar to the one the ebay seller's offering (though it's 667mhz compared to 800mhz).

I'll try your suggestion when I have the NC10 running later, John Gray. Thank you.

On Amazon, they say they got 2GB Kingston sticks for around £15 (!), admittedly those reviews were about a year ago. The ebay link I posted originally (£30) seems to be about the cheapest.

I was hoping someone could tell me the difference between the specs of the three different 2GB sticks on Crucial versus the ebay seller's 2GB Kingston ValueRAM offering. And to confirm that the ebay one is correct.

Always ask the eBay seller if it is compatible. Then if it isn't, you have the grounds for a full refund.

Okay, for anyone interested Sammy Netbook Forum states this: "The Samsung NC10 supports DDR2 SODIMM 667mhz Ram. It should be noted that 800mhz Ram will work but it is not recommended by Samsung and will actually be under clocked down to 667mhz anyway due to the hardware specification"

The Corsair Value Select 2GB 667MHz DDR2 VS2GSDS667D2 is another option. Just trying to find the cheapest! (One website said they preferred Corsair over Kingston, and that Kingston were, many moons ago, considered a to be a "cheap/inferior" manufacturer, though I haven't been a computer geek long enough to verify that).

I keep reading about a £12/15 generic RAM stick, but can I find it?!! Nope.

If you're still looking I found this - ,http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110544102386&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT and the seller states
" This Ram is actually better than you need, but it is fully backward compatible with your netbook.
I do have the exact one that you need which is pc2 5300 and can send that if you like if you remind me when you order.

Hope this is useful for you "

The £12-15 generic Ram stick you keep reading about was for a 2GB PNY from play in a deal from last year, now £35.

Thanks. That explains why I can't find the £12-15 RAM anywhere!

I was lucky enough to get this new Hynix stick yesterday: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260617822644&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT (looked up the details elsewhere and it's 800mhz, Sammy Netbook Forum said it should be ok).

Apparently the newest versions of the NC10 are compatible with 800mhz RAM cards and don't underclock them.
