Bad Credit address?
Options
I recently applied for finance in order to buy a camera worth £600, and was turned down. I have fairly good credit and have not had trouble obtaining credit until I moved into my present rented accomodation. The previous tenant, however, seems to have unpaid debts with BT for which there are frequent mailings to my address (addressed to the previous tenant, of course) from debt recovery agencies regarding a BT bill that is outstanding.
I have, of course, requested credit reports from Ezperian, Equifax and CallCredit, but I was wondering who I should contact to dissociate my credit profile from the previous tenants'.
Do I contact BT for this? Or do I need to contact the credit reference agencies?
I do not have contact details for the previous tenant, by the way.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Thanks
M

Contact the credit reference agencies.
By the way there is also a credit agency called Nation Hunter which you need to do a check with - http://www.nhunter.co.uk/data.html
Companies don't blacklist addresses but they may blacklist postcodes if there has been history of fraud there.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
(If a link I give opens pop ups I won't know I don't use windows)0 -
I just contacted BT and informed them about the previous tenant having moved from this address and they, too, informed me that his debts would not affect my credit score. I suppose it's the recent change of address that's made them refuse credit for my camera!
Edit: National Hunter seems to be a fraud detection agency. Im not sure why I would need a report from them. Also, its goin to cost me £20 to get a report from them since I have a joint account with my wife?0 -

Not necessarily.
People are since the credit crunch are being refused credit all the time.
I suggest you contact National Hunter anyway to see if there is anything dodgy on your records.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Surely checking the three Credit Reference Agencies would tell him if there was anything dodgy on his file, without forking out for this other company, who is not even a CRA?
I've not been a member of this site for very long, but I have read a lot threads and it's the first time I have heard of this company.0 -

...They seem to be an organisation that credit providers would contact to investigate fraud, imo.
I think I will wait and see what the other three say on their reports, and then decide whether to go for NHunter.
Thanks for the suggestion!

Moved last August, and on the electoral roll in september 2009. Have obtained finance (for larger amounts) twice in Sept. and Oct. 09.
Thats why Im surprised at being refused credit for £600 ....0 -

I was initially with Andy on the Electoral Roll issue, your opening statement was a bit incomplete.0 -
EQUIFAX statutory report arrived today...shows nothing I dont already know.
Im wondering now if it may be the address change that's affected my score...I suppose this time around my application was with a different lender; after all, different lenders may have different decisions?
One question, if anyone can help me.....how long is it safe to wait before making another application? Is it 3 months or 6 months?
Thanks again
