Post Office HomePhone Wouldn't Accept Customer Who Fails Credit Check

I have recently tried to change over from BT to Post Office HomePhone package to save some money and the terrible bad customer service frorm BT. However, I failed the credit score and they wouldn't accept me. I have never failed to pay any bills witb BT through direct debit and I don't understand why as I am not even applying for credit or anything like that. In fact, I have no plans of going over what the package is offering i.e. free evening and weekend calls. Post Office says they can't do anything about it. I'm now well and truly stuck with BT!!

  • You could try IDNET - they're a small company and may or may not do credit checks.

You can (and in light of this it might be an idea to) get a copy of your credit history from Equifax and Experian (think the PO use the former, though not certain) and check to make sure there's nothing untoward there or any erroneous entries which might cause you the same issue when you next apply for something based on credit being provided.

Do you actually owe money to some companies, despite always paying BT? Large credit card bill, or energy supplier, not paid off for instance?

Understandably any new company offering you credit will run a credit check against you

Look at it from their side, you may just decide to pay Barclaycard instead of them next month, how are they to know?

Much easier not to take on people they consider dodgy credit customers
