It also gets very hot, and we've had 3 new chargers recently - we thought there was something wrong with the chargers as they packed up, but I think it's more likely the hole the charger plugs into. It's currently lying dead, and I'm using my work lappy, but need to get the Toshiba sorted out rather than buying yet another charger.
The hole where the charger plugs in is very loose on mine too, in fact, I lost it totally inside the machine a month ago.The repair shop guy told me he'd had several Toshibas in with the same fault. It cost me £35 to have it glued back into place, a new one was going to be £85 and, as the machine is on its way out, I didn't think it worth paying.Preemie hats 9 :j0 -
"" Thanks for the links, this would be cheaper than the £50ish external drive. Can I put documents on as well as photos? "
- yes, anything you like
"" it gets extremely hot now ""
- get the smallest orifice pipe from your vacum in around and all over front sides & back
"" the hole the charger plugs into ""
- not surprising is it, you've just spent 2 years forcibly bending it against it's will in all directions
"" It cost me £35 to have it glued back into place ""
- cheap money [ half hour labour ] really, it takes nearly that time to strip / repair and box up the case
NB. clean [er] rooms kill all computers quicker. Air is drawn through the case permanently the more you ' hoover ' the quicker you smother the switched on puter to death, by filling it with a quilt of dust.

There you go saved £45 quid and retired the Dyson !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. tip of the day:-
when using the laptop on your, err, lap, either put it on a big book with a cushion under the book, or one of those trays with the soft padded underside. This gives the lappy a flat hard surface to stop the vents getting blocked, and the padded bits save your knees
I've collared the kid's huge dinosaur book for exactly this purpose, big enough for the lappy and some mouse-room......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -

Not only that, I'm saving on central heating bills by sitting with a boiling hot laptop keeping me knees warm!:rotfl:Preemie hats 9 :j0 -
You could get a laptop cushion.

Or a cooling platform.

Or just follow Gun Jack's advice which is a lot cheaper.0
