There's a big shortage of carers, around here anyway so I doubt you'll find it hard to get a job in care. I wish I could do it. Just make sure you get trained properly as a friend of mine got shoved in to it with people who were meant to show her what to do but didn't because it put them way behind in their work.
As a result she was doing things she really shouldn't have been doing ie things that could put health and lives in danger.
I suppose the worse bit is getting used to clients who like things doing a very certain way and get stroppy if not. and wiping bums. But I know a few people who are in community care and love it. You make the clients tea, go shopping, do errands, get them up, put them to bed.Trying to spread calmness, understanding and optimism on MSE0 -
Got an interview tomorrow and apparently this invoves being given a range of scenarios and stating what i would do etc:eek:
As this is a totally new line of work to me im a little worried to say the least:(0 -
hi Kizzy
I have recently got a part time job as a community care worker. I am in the same boat as you with no experience. I wouldn't worry about the interview. Mine was easy.
A few brief questions, a numeracy and literacy test and some e-learning, but I suppose each care company is different.
Good luck

Most of the questions will just require a commonsense answer such as what you would do in real life. Any tricky questions will either require the answer that you ring the office for advice or that you call a doctor/paramedics.
You'll be fine - let us know how you get on.Please do not quote spam as this enables it to 'live on' once the spam post is removed.

I hope its ok to post in here, I'm not sure if I'm supposed to start a new thread or not but it involves the same topic. I also want to start working in the same area but I have no experience and I was wondering how best to go about applying for jobs. Most of the jobs that I can apply for with no experience want you to have a driving licence which I don't have. So I was wondering if it would be best to do a course, voluntary work or maybe both. I'm hoping to do an Access Nursing and Healthcare Professions course in September, would that help or would I be better off doing something else. I've got an appointment with my jobcentre Advisor soon, to try and do a training course. If I get put on a course, would it benefit me more to learn the job in a nursing home or would it be the same sort of thing if I go into hospital work. Sorry for the rambling0
