Peroxide or bleach is the best solution Im afraid.

When I wanted to get rid of my back hair its the only thing that would lighten it. It took about 4 days in total, had to bleach it twice then put the colour I wanted on top of that. I'm very lucky though as my hair is strong and thick. It dried my hair out a lot though and I had to put a couple of hot oil treatments on it.

    Ewwwww!

Peroxide worked really well on my back hair and black hair!!!!!:rotfl:
  • Just to say she tried the Head and Shoulders and it helped considerably. She also had it cut shorter and its not so intense black now. She had quite a lot of grey before (her hair was brown) and although it still looks a bit strong, it has definitely toned down a lot. Thanks for all your help!

There's a product in Boots called 'Colour B4' - I think it's by Scott someone... I'll try and find a link..
I used it when I did this and it's amazing!

Edit: Scott Cornwall. The extra strength one was about 12 quid but it really worked.

I've used that - was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked :j
  • Have you tried Colour B4, its great i used it couple of weeks ago, and it worked really well. i think its sold in superdrug and boots. hope this helps xx

Head and Shoulders shampoo, rubbed into the hair when dry and then shampooed as normal. If it's a semi permanent it will help remove it, if it's permanent then it will help to fade it.

L'oreal colours are notorious for dying darker than the colour on the box.

This tip works great, I always used to wonder why my hair dye faded really quickly and it was because of the shampoo I was using, for some reason it fades permenant colour after a couple of washes.

I've heard good stuff about this too. It's worth a try. However I am a bit confused- was the wrong dye in the box, or has it just come out the wrong colour? Dark brown hair dyes always come out very very dark in my experience, appearing black for some time until it washes out enough (including permanent dyes). I think this is the more likely thing that happened. If she wants to speed the process along, as another poster said bog standard Head and Shoulder is great for fading the colour.

From memory when I last dyed my hair dark brown it came out black, and faded to the colour it should have been within a few weeks. But obviously this depends on how often you wash your hair, and if it's seriously bothering her than Colour B4 would be the quickest solution.

I put a brown dye on my blonde hair last year and it went orange! I tried head and shoulders, fairy liquid etc and nothing worked. in the end I had to go to my hairdressers who, after picking herself up off the floor laughing, fixed it!
