I currently have a HP printer wired to my desktop but would like a wireless printer.

My question is do I get one that I can wire to the desktop and then will print wirelessly from laptops or just a wireless one and when looking at spec how do i know which is which??

Also can anyone recommend a decent one please?

I got an HP F4580 recently; it's connected via USB to my desktop (which doesn't have a wireless card) and also works fine from my wireless laptop and another desktop, which is wireless-capable.

I would imagine most, if not all, HP wireless printers will be able to work the same way. Not sure about other makes

All of the new Epson wireless models are pretty good, any model which has a 'W' at the end of the model number is wifi ready.

They connect through your router so don't need to be physically cabled to any PC and any computer connected through your router can print to the printer.

Do they physically connect to the router or wirelessly?

If my desktop isn't wireless will I need to connect it to the printer to be able to print? If so what spec does the printer have to have to be able to do this wired and also be wireless?

No need to buy a new printer. Just share the printer at your desktop and install the shared printer on your laptop. The desktop needs to be switched on when you want to print from the laptop though.

This one explains it quite good with pictures for XP. Should be similar for every Windows.

Yes, but not every network printer is wireless. ;)

    Hi

AVOID Lexmark Impact, although it prints adequately the paper pick up is too fierce and so it creases the paper

The Epsons conect wirelessly to the router, the only cable they need plugged into them is the power.
