Wireless Data Transfer

Hey All,
I have a laptop and a PC both connected through a BT Wireless Home Hub.
I'm transfering data from laptop to PC through the wireless, it works but seems very slow - just wondering if 1.21MB/second sounds right?
Both laptop and PC are running Windows 7. Both have 'Excellent' signal strength and are reported to be running 54Mbps when I look at the status option under Windows 7 wireless settings.
Laptop has a Broadcom 802.11g mini-PCI card
PC has a Netgear WPN311 RangeMax PCI card
Router is a BT Home Hub 2.0
Thanks,
Chris

It doesn't look to be far wrong. Given that one is shown as bits and the other bytes, you immediately have to divide by 8.
Then if you account for protocol overheads and the possible contention with other users nearby.
And then if you account for the fact that you are almost certainly contending with yourself (two wi-fi based file transfers - one laptop to hub and the other hub to PC - at the same time) it does not look surprising.
It's the reason why I always use a wired Gig switch if I need to transfer large files between computers.0
