How can my final bill be so high???...

May 4th i called BT and asked them when my contract would end, i was told it was due to end on the 13th May. Having got fed up of BT, i told them to cancel my services as i was moving to Sky for my telephone, I have no other services with them. Several times i queried the date of my end contract date and each time i was assured that i would not be penalized as i had only a week or so left of my contract to run. Now i view my final bill and they want to charge me a total of £113.90, £86.13 of this because i apparently cancelled whilst still under contract to them. How can i still have contract left to run when i cancelled with a lot less than a month left?. I was assured that I would maybe even have a credit for my final bill.

Also they tell me that my next bill is due in September!!.. I cancelled the damned service, how can they say my next bill is due in september?!?. BT is a joke, a greedy one at that!.

I will not pay this bill, so if there is a BT rep around, please can you sort this out?.

  • Does it show the actual date the account was terminated by BT - and is that date the 14th May by any chance?

If you'd cancelled early, for instance the cancellation took effect from 12th May, early termination charges would apply. But they shouldn't be anywhere near that figure.

Hello Mark, Thank you for your reply. No there is no termination date anywhere, (its an online Bill which i have copied and saved in my pc now) which doesnt make any sense either, they are penalising me for cancelling (apparently) early, but also tell me that my next Bill is due in September.
I think i may still have the letter where they tell me that i want to cancel my services, but stupidly, even though i knew it didnt sound right at the time, (they didnt add a date of cancellation etc) i dismissed it, never in this world believing that BT would be so damned underhand!.

I will re~calculate the bill myself and send the payment, MINUS the £86.13p because i will not pay a charge that i am not in any way responsible for.:mad:

I am hoping its a mistake that can be resolved when i call them this morning but i am not holding my breath, lately they seem to be gettng into dirty tricks, and trying to hold onto customers in any way they can. No wonder people are leaving them in droves!.

ETA... Just called BT and the lady i spoke to explained that it looks like this is a cyclic bill, she has removed the £86.13p and will send me an amended bill which will be the final one. She assured me that this will be the last correspondence i have from them. Hopefully this will be the end of it and i will have a much lower bill!.

    Actually it would seem not....

This morning i got an email telling me i could view my bill online, i thought "at last, its sorted" but NO..the same bill is still showing up, with my 'next bill due' date showing still as september. Can BT really not get its act togewther or is this as i suspect, just more and more attempts to make people pay more than they need?.

I am now waiting for someone to call me back, as i dont have the time to sit about on the line while they decide to get their !!! into gear!

If i wasnt fed up with BT before, i certainly am now. What a total shambles of a company.

  • Write to them by recorded delivery so you have proof of the communication, and explain you are happy to pay what you owe which you believe to be £x showing how you arrived at that number. Pay that and put the ball back in their court, then as long as you're happy you paid what you owed, just move on with life and your new supplier.

To be honest, although i could just deduct the £86 from the bill, i may not be correct with it, i could owe a couple more quid depending how they have worked it out... (i have no idea, they deduct and add bits all over the place which i just cant seem to follow) i'm really p'd off with them, but i dont want to diddle them in any way. I just want them to sort it. It seems that they put me back on the contract for 2 weeks, which is utterly ridiculous, why would i want to tie myself in with a year contract for the sake of 2 weeks?. I will maybe do what you say and see what happens, the bill was due to be paid yesterday.

Hi Stef, i have online billing anyway so it isnt gonna cost them a bean to bill me, but i'm just furious that this company cannot get things sorted.
The highly overinflated bill was due to be paid yesterday but instead i'm trying to do the right thing and let them amend it, however, i think i will just pay them the £27.77 instead of the £113.90. Although this may not be correct as this bill takes into consideration some credits for certain things so it could well be slightly more, but what the heck, if they cant bill me correctly, why should i care?!?!. I'm past caring now. its over a month since this all began.

    Hi Geebee

Sorry to read your problem has not been resolved can I ask if the bill you received was a Final bill this would state a ref like F012.

If it wasn't you will receive another bill which will reflect a correct finalised amount. Send me an email to the address in my profile I can have this sorted out for you.

    Cheers
