Hi, my Cilla is about to drop her babies any day now and I want to be prepared, can anyone recommend a substitute milk in case there are any problems feeding?

Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind.
They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.

Or try cimicat - available from most vets, some pet shops and on-line probably0

Lactol is the usual one I think, you can get it at most pet shops.0

Royal Canin make some babycat milk that you can either get from your vet or from pet outlets that keep Royal Canin - c£8 tin.
You can also feed this to the mum to help her own milk supply - ours loved it but the kittens turned their noses up!0 -
a HUGH vote for cimicat0

I would say the Vets is a good place to start but also give Mum LOTS of GOOD quality food to build her up too & good luck :0)0

Also while I remember, our vet told us that kitten food was suitable to feed the mum as it is high protein and provides all the nutrients for good kitten health via the mum's milk. We fed unlimited amounts and the mum produced loads of milk.
We bought science plan kitten biscuits which mum loved, but when the kittens moved onto solid food it was too big for them. The Royal Canin kitten is tiny little pieces which they go mad for now they are weaned.
I have no connection with Royal Canin by the way, but buying a large bag of kitten food and then finding it is too big for them to eat would not be very money saving, so thought I would pass this on. We have now mixed the remains of the SP with the RC biscuits so they have different sizes to eat. Also the dried food is good for their teeth and doesn't attract flies in the same way that wet pouches do.0 -
Most wet pouches are not very moneysaving
however I imagine giving Mum catmilk could help her produce more for her little ones - this is sold in most supermarkets as well as online.
Personally I would feed Mum a mixture of wet & dry (however the risk of babies falling in water bowl not to be ignored.0 -
Mum is being spoilt rotten, fish, chicken, biscuits, feline fayre, catmilk and anything else she can get her paws on!
I am just impatiently waiting for her to have the kittens! The suspense is killing me!Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness. So I talk to the cats instead.0 -
Finally the kittens arrived, in the middle of the night! So we have 4 gorgeous Norwegian Forest crosses, all different, so at least I can tell them apart.Be who you are, say what you feel, those who mind don't matter, those who matter don't mind. They say that talking to yourself is a sign of mental illness.
