Hello,
Need a new line in a rented place soon.
Is Plusnet a safe bet to go with to set up a new line? Looking at Calls + Broadband.
They are slightly cheaper overall but the main benifit is its only a 12 month contract which might be better for me.
I was just concerned if there was a problem at some point with the line would they be able to sort it out?
thanks

Any line supplier can attempt to get BT Openreach to sort line issues out - the way it was split, no line supplier has an advantage with them (although PlusNet are owned by BT anyway), indeed a number of ISPs have quite a good reputation for bullying Openreach into fixing issues (IDNET, AAISP spring to mind both of which can do month to month contracts if I recall correctly, not 12 month ones, though I think only IDNET supply a phone line with a calls package, AAISP is wires only for the internet I think)0

PLUSNET are owned by BT, but they are not totally inept yet as they have not been fully assimilated
They still run at arms length from BT, but since BT took them over they have had call centres outsourced (Phillipenes, South Africa), who are better than India, but still struggle with regional accents
Not as good as they were (have been with them off and on for 4-5 years), but vastly better than BTbaldly going on...0 -
You can be sure that if there are any problems, BT will make it much harder to sort out than Plusnet. BT Retail have the same relationship with BT OpenReach as any other ISP.
It's still OpenReach that is responsible for your line and does any necessary maintenance and repair. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thanks for your replies.
It sounds like Plusnet might be ok

There's the advantage too of getting a cashback from the likes of Topcashback (or similar) which is worth around £30 dependent on package you take.0
