4GB memory stick inc Star Trek film for £6.99

You can get a 4GB USB memory stick for £6.99 delivered, with the most recent Star Trek film thrown in for free. A cheap memory stick of this size can cost at least a fiver on their own, so this is a good deal.

How to get it[/title]
The deal is with online shop MyMemory - you get the 4GB USB memory stick - which can be used to store photos, music, or any other files - plus Star Trek IX is already on the drive when you get it.
This leaves 3GB-ish of room, but you can move the Star Trek file to your computer to free up space, or even delete it if you feel so inclined.
Important! After you go through the checkout, MyMemory offers you the chance to get a cashback discount off your next purchase - do NOT sign up for this. You are actually joining a cashback club that costs £10 a month. Sadly many website have such a scheme linked after you buy its best avoided see the Cashback club problems explanation.

How to watch the film[/title]

The file type is 'DivX', which non-techies would be forgiven for not hearing of before. However, it is easy and free to watch, you just need to download the right type of video player.
To do this is straightforward; go to the DivX website, click 'Free Download' and follow the instructions.

Anything else[/title]
A bit of a marmite moment here, the memory stick is rather bulky and in the shape of some Star Trek paraphenalia (the Trekkies in the office plus a bit of Googling tell us this might be a 'Starfleet emblem').
A straw poll of MSE towers (with a very small sample group) tells us that some find this just about the coolest feature going, while others think it may be a tad cumbersome for a 'pocket-sized' device. One to make your own mind up on...

Great price!:j but only really good for star trek fans! This movie is in DIVX format and must be activated by 31-12-2010 You have to download DIVX software "which is a real pain
and time consuming" to watch on your computer! and if you want to watch on your wide screen TV or play in your dvd player if not in DIVX format ( after spending time!!! trying to copy to dvd disc!!!) they have to be DIVX enabled? look for logo on your devices!!! if not you are limited to your PC. If you love the very heavy chunky feel/look of this, it is great.:T
But if only after movie? best buy from amazon etcThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

I would think you can also watch it on your tv easily if you have an hdmi port on your computer and TV without bothering to burn it to a dvd. We watch streaming video all the time by hooking the laptop to the tv.0 -

Should play straight through my PS3 but even if you don't want to watch the movie, you're getting a 4gb flash drive for only £4.99 & it's solidly built. Cheap as chips..........

Got one of these last time the offer was on. One word of warning - unlike most flash drives that are very small and light - this is very clumbersome and heavy. I was disappointed.0

.......You have to download DIVX software "which is a real pain

Or for those who would like to easily download a free DIVX player which will play just about any format you throw at it go for
VLC Player http://vlc-media-player.en.softonic.com/
it reads and plays MKV, WMV, MPEG, MP4, MOV, AVI, DIVX, XVID, FLV, FLAC, WAV, REAL plus many more
.....not a pain and is really very good. :beer:0 -
Don't forget 10% cashback with TopCashBack
If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat
0 -
10% at Quidco too!0
-
it'd probably also play on the ps3 - just plug the stick into the usb port0

However, given the specifications listed, the reference to an activation date and the references to "up to" 6 pieces of compatible equipment, I believe that this movie probably has DRM (Digital Rights Management) to stop you watching it via unapproved devices and software. I'm sad, was gonna buy it. :mad:Coldfinger wrote: »Or for those who would like to easily download a free DIVX player which will play just about any format you throw at it go for

I won't be buying this because-- Too many DRM schemes have failed (and when they fail, you may lose access to whatever you bought). It is not a future protected system - don't expect necessarily to be able to watch/view your videos or music in 10 or even 5 years time!
- I want to be able to watch what I purchase on whatever device I chose to (that is technically capable of doing so) whenever and wherever I want. i.e. my xbox 360, my phone, my PC, under Linux, whatever I'm using at the time, now and in the future.
- I refuse to download unnecessary bloatware to my PC, just for the purpose of supporting DRM so that I can watch/listen to less!
