Can someone help please.
Switched on main computer yesterday, it done a DSKCHD, deleted several files, quick, couldn't follow it.
Then a blank screen with a message
" Isass.exe
This application has failed to start because SAMLIB.dll was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
I put in the re-install disc but nothing has happened. No movement.

Google tells us that "isass.exe is registered as the Optix.Pro virus which carries in it's payload, the ability to disable firewalls and local security protections, and a backdoor capability."
So it's not something that you want on your machine! Run your anti-virus software, it may have already be removed but a script is still looking for the missing dll file and therefore it can't run.
HTH:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Are you sure its not Lsass.exe....sometimes these things can be hard to read, that process requires the Samlib.dll file to run as well, you didn't recently update your windows service pack?
Lsass.exe is a regular Windows process, however, the sasser worm has the same name.
Here's the M$ link for info on it:

If you do happen to have the sasser worm here is are links with details of how to remove it:

I would imagine if you want to do a re-install (warning, this will put you PC back to factory settings and probably delete ALL the info , files etc , you have on it) most manufacturers have a system when u switch on the pc you have the reinstall disc in the drive or you press one of the F keys....F12 or something or and then follow the instructions.
WARNING reformats or re installs delete everything on your PC...so research a bit further before you go down this route....if you have to do this....
Backup, Backup, Backup is a good routine to get into....incase this happens again....its really miserable when you lose the lot!
Hope this helps.I'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -
Thank you muchly. There is not an i in it so probably I or l if you know what I mean., Have tried safe mode, but don't really know what I'm doing.
Tis a 3400 Targa, with an EasyInstall disc and another full monty disc.
The Easyinstall disk has four stages to gradually restore things.
Several options in Safe Mode that I havn't tried yet, but message keeps re-appearing.0 -
Used (or rather my comp literate neighbour did)

Reactivating windows took a while...more numbers than the yellow pages.

AVG was damaged, a note came up to re-install, now done, so suppose it was an attack, worm, trojan, whatever.
Techspot as mentioned above kept all data as was.
Thank you.0
