over the last few days i have been experiencing problems with O2 broadband.
Everytime the Home phone (BT) rings, i lose my internet connection.
Apart from the obvious (one of the filters is no longer working etc etc) what problems can cause this? as its getting really annoying now!
thanks in advance!

In addition to the filters in your house, the equipment at the exchange has a similar function to split telephone and broadband signals, and it's possible that this is faulty.
If you have ruled out the obvious by swapping out your existing filters, you should contact O2 and ask them to test your connection, as they ~should~ be able to check that.0 -

Is your phone a wireless one one - might be worth moving the router away from the phone reciever ...

I have 2 wireless phones in the house, One in the hall way and one in the master bedroom.
The router itself is in the lounge but is plugging into the Hallway phone filter.
Im going to do some swapping later and then ring O2 if it continues.0 -
The phone base station should be well away from the router. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

the base station itself is away from it, but they are both plugged in to the same phone point0

If it isn't a filter then the chances are that it's a line fault. O2 will almost certainly drive you potty with pointless tests though before they'll call out BT to find that fault. Good luck.0

Dial 151 and do a BT line test, or go on their website and do one.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

Its most likely a filter issue - sometimes the filters done work as well as they should. One solution might be to connect two filters together in series instead of just using one.0

That won't help as the second filter won't see the broadband signal due to it being removed at the first filter.thescouselander wrote: »One solution might be to connect two filters together in series instead of just using one.
I'll take a punt on it being down to a dodgy microfilter somewhere, or being down to a device that is connected to the phone line (such as a Sky box) without a microfilter .Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
Try the router and a filter alone in the test socket on the master socket, so that your wiring is disconnected. Ring in with a mobile. If there is still a problem, then the problm is not on your premises. If there is now no problem, it si your kit where it resides.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
