Hubby recently lost his netbook and the insurance company have given us a voucher to use in Currys/PC World to replace it.
We've looked on their websites and just about all of the netbooks are now running on Windows 7 Starter rather than XP.
I've read that it doen't support Windows Media Player and that you can't watch films, tv etc on it. Hubby uses his netbook alot for watching iplayer and also Skyplayer. Will he still be able to do this?
What are the advantages and/or disadvantages to 7 Starter over XP?
Thanks.

Where did you read that it doesn't support WMP? I have WMP 12, it will support WMP 11 at a minimum. It might not include WMP, but that does not mean you cannot download and install it.
Chances are you won't notice a lack of functionality with regard to the usage mentioned.

I think it includes WMP but not the codecs required to play DVDs. The easiest solution is just to download the freebie VLC Payer.0 -

Thanks all - I had just googled 'windows 7 starter' and the first couple of pages said that it didn't support WMP - turns out I should have looked a bit further cos those pages were written about a million years ago!!
Anyway we went to Currys and hubby is now the proud owner of a Samsung N150!xxx Nikki xxx0 -
Install VLC Player. It'll play any media file you can throw at it.0
