Hi,

I bought a new laptop yesterday as I'm laid up in bed unable to walk, due to a spider bite. Its an MSI cr500 running windows 7.
Everything was going fine until about 30 minutes ago, when I had been browsing the net and I closed the lid of the laptop without shutting down (it's my first laptop so I didn't think that was a problem?) when I opened it back up and went to switch it back on (screen was black and no lights on) it loaded as normal and prompted me for my user password. I entered it but it just says unable to load user profile and reboots back to the enter password screen.

I only created 1 user account, with admin privileges. I have restarted in safe mode and can get into the control panel but when I try to create a new user profile, nothing happens. I can see it let me click as the little circle goes round a couple of times but nothing loads?

I thought I could create a new profile and delete the one that doesn't work.

I'm stuck what to try next, as my laptop isn't even 24hours old. I don't want to do something wrong.

I'm sitting with my leg propped up on my computer desk hoping that some kind (and very knowledgeable) person can tell me what to do now.

Thanks in advance,
Donna
p.s I managed to remove the password from the account and rebooted hoping it would load but it never. error message reads " the user profile service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded".

    Hi Donna,

There appear to be various solutions to this problem. The simplest is probably to do a System Restore to a time before the problem first occurred. If you can't do this from Safe Mode choose Repair Your Computer from the same menu that you accessed Safe Mode from. If it'll let you log in...

If you'd prefer to investigate this problem:

I'm still using Windows XP as my main machine and don't have any personal experience of this problem, but it seems to have started with Vista. This discussion runs to over 50 pages, so i haven't read it all, but this one seems to work for most people. These both refer to Vista but are supposed to be equally applicable to Windows 7. Having said that, I'd be very careful before making significant changes to the machine.

Thanks for your reply. I have just decided to reset it, as it's so new that's the least hassle option.
