I have seen clamping cases on pepipoo where a crime has been committed and the victim has obtained a crime number from the Police. This has then put them in a stronger position to insist on Section 75 where they've paid by credit card.

Never mind VISA chargeback, Section 75 does apply, but it takes a lot of pressure and insistence, referring up the line to the top banana at the Bank if need be. The 'crime' element is the key I think.

So any victims you know of should go back to the Police to at least get a crime number at the earliest opportunity. No permission to clamp (and now no signs) = a crime.

And the victims and MP must push through a conviction - which if the Police aren't proactive, may have to be led by Trading Standards. If TS are useless then report the matter to the OfT and keep the MP involved.

Local press as well, now might be a good time for a story making it clear that there are now no signs up, so any clamping there now is certainly illegal (although it certainly seems to me that there's a Police case to answer even before the signs were removed). Blackmail springs to mind, as in this 2005 case with a very similar modus operandi:

Portsmouth clampers jailed for blackmail 2005

Why did businesses allow the signs? Did they have a contract with these bullies then?
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
