Pay-as-you-go car rental

We are living in Cardiff and at the end of the month we will be loosing the use of my company car as I am hoping to take up another job, which does not come with a car.
We are planning a family, so would like to buy a MPV in the foreseeable future, but not straight away.
Living in Cardiff we like the use of a car over the weekend (we dont need one during the week). Has anyone got experience with whipcar.com or can suggest similiar offerings?
Also, is there a spreadsheet whizz out there, who has calculated the cost of ownership of a car vs car-sharing schemes?

Cost of ownership varies too much, Insurance can vary by hundreds just by living a few roads away with a different postcode.
How many miles a week you plan to drive, traffic conditions.
I have a mondeo diesel & it did 28mpg in the winter, Tool old dears away last week & averaged 48mpg, loaded car with roofbox, seaside traffic etc, not bad i think. Filled up before going & still got quarter left.
Many years ago i had a 1400cc diesel rover metro, Drove from Birmingham down through Banbury to a small village picked a parcel up, Carried on down to the M4 across and around cheddar cave's gorge etc. and back on £20.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I'd also be very interested on any feedback on whipcar or potential pitfalls.I think....0
