I want Extra RAM

My laptop has the below specifications...

Celeron R CPU 240Ghz
2.40 GHz
240 MB Ram

On broadband, my laptop is supposed to ideally have 256mb of RAM.
Is is possible to increase my RAM level without opening up my pc?

I have WinXP2.

not really, it's not hard to put new ram in most laptops, you just turn them over and undo a few screws

    see here

    http://www.fonerbooks.com/laptop_2.htm

    look at

    http://www.crucial.com/uk/

    to find compatable ram

I've had a laptop with 90mb of available ram on wirless broadband , was slow though

Your laptop will have 256MB, but 16MB is being reserved for the graphics. Having broadband does not really affect the memory requirement at all. 256MB is pretty minimal, but plenty of cheap laptops are still being sold with no more memory than that. It's up to you - if you are happy with the performance there is no need to add memory, but you would probably notice an improvement if you were to add more memory.
On a laptop, there is normally a small hatch in the underside which allows access to the RAM modules. You will probably find a diagram in your laptop's manual. You will need to find out if there is a spare slot to add more RAM; if not, you would need to remove the existing memory and add a larger module. It's very easy to do. I suggest you use the memory adviser at http://www.crucial.com/uk/ to ensure you get the right memory for your particular machine.

    This is reassuring.
I am pretty pleased with my laptop's performance actually - what you buy is what you get kind of stuff.

Is that 16mb for my graphics card?
Can I remove this to give me my total 256mb total - just bieng curious.

I am not opening up my laptop!!
I know how inconvenient it is to reinstall all my gear.

I've done loads of laptop ram, you can't break it doing that

the graphics are built into the motherboard so you are stuck with that I'm afraid

see how it goes on broadband before you make the decision

Definitely use Crucial's site, or take your laptop back to where you got it if you decide to get more RAM. Not all memory is the same & if you don't get matching memory you will be wasting your money, laptops are particularly fussy.

I've had my laptop for at least two years.
With built in floppy disk drive, its probably the last of its kind brand new.

    I'm pretty happy with it.

Definately use Crucial. They search your machine so you don't need to worry about getting the wrong type of memory
