How long does it take to complete the sale of a flat?

Hi all,

I have just submitted a charging order on a flat after being granted a CCJ over an unreturned deposit, and am still awaiting the interim order from the court.

The reason for the order, was because I saw that the flat was up for sale, and thought that this might be the quickest way of getting our money back. I have just found out however, that a sale has been agreed. The flat itself is chain-free.

I have never owned property myself, and so I wondered if anyone could please tell me how long I might expect the conveyancing process to take? And whether, I might still have any chance of getting this charging order through in time before the sale is ‘done and dusted’?

Thanks a lot

I'm afraid this is a 'how long is a piece of string?' question.

I work as a legal secretary and have seen conveyancing take from little as 4 days to 6 months!

As an average I can say 4-6 weeks but it is highly flexible!
Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck :)

If the owner has concerns about being pursued for debt, they may have 'sold' to family or friends, and it could be pushed through quite quickly...
