    Could be this.

My Virgin card BT is until my September statement. Now say my statement is produced on the 3rd Sept, with payment due by 30th Sept. If I pay my account on the 22nd Sept, I believe I will get some daily trailing interest between the 3rd Sept and the 22nd Sept.

To recieve no trailing interest I would need to pay off my card before the 3rd Sept, the day my statement is produce.

    Is this a possibility?

We've heard before on this issue from MBNA/Virgin employees.
Virgin send their request for direct debit on the day the statement is made up and making additional payments will not alter this.
Best bet is to phone them and politely appeal to their better nature and see if they will refund, but it is as per their T&Cs.
    Live and learn I'm afraid.

From the "Important: Confirmation of the set-up of your Direct Debit Instruction" letter MBNA sent you...
Once your Direct Debit is in place, any extra payments you make will not affect the amount we collect unless you contact us at least five working days before the payment due date. Please note that working days do not include Saturdays, Sundays or Bank Holidays.
    And from the DD guarantee...
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify the organisation.

You didn't do either of the above! However, the charges will probably be refunded if you ask customer loyalty* politely.

    Hi

I spoke to Virgin on the 26th may and asked to pay in full my outstanding balance and close the account with immediate effect which they did.

Recieved a statement this morning saying there was 0.38p outstanding and an unpaid direct debit and charge of £12.00.

i have just spoken to them on the phone and explained situation the guy asked if the operator had mentioned the direct debit. I said no and he said sorry and said he would cancel the charge and cancel the 0.38p balance and would close the account and send it in writting.
