Tenth Anniversary First Post Combo Breaker
Hi everyone

I wonder if someone can help me I have just been turned down and appealed to Santander for a personal loan. I have to say they were very helpful and told me the reason i was turned down was because although I have lived at my address for over 10 years I have only been on electoral roll for 2 and also that I don't have enough checkable years of credit. They then say that they can offer an alternative company called UCC (done research looks like a scam to me) So now I am at a loss. I would like to borrow about 6500.00 but this has knocked me and I am worried about doing further apps. I currently have 2 credit cards with availabe credit of 2400.00 and I owe 1142.00 to Provident. Can anybody suggest a reputable company that may be able to help.

Thanks

  • Can I ask why you want the loan, is it to clear the other loans ??
  • Hi Jonjamie

Part of it would be for paying off what I have which at the moment which stands at approx 2242.00 the rest is for home improvements (somebody told me I would be better saying to loan companies that it was for a car but like to be honest on the applications coz you never know when somebody might check on it certainly don't want any CIFAs on my file. My available credit to debt ratio is 16% at the moment

    Hi Tracey

I have had a similiar experience, as in I applied with Santander for a consolidation loan last week for all of my debt, also saying I would like to bring my business over from Barclays to them, but they declined. The personal banker I spoke with was lovely and said it was notoriously difficult apparently to get loans now with Santander. However in their letter they also advised that I could speak with UCC plc for a loan, I have posted a separate thread to ask if anyone had heard of them- but as the personal banker advised me to ring them, and Santander recommended them in their letter, I am confused as to whether they are dodgy or not! Also if that is my only option I may have to take it as I desperately need to consolidate my outgoings.

Secondly you mentioned having a CIFAS reference on your credit report- I have one on mine but only because we had personal data stolen from my place of work a year ago and our employer registered the majority of staff on the CIFAS website, as a precaution to identity theft. However does this work against you when you apply for a loan etc? If anyone does know would be much appreciated - thanks. Good luck Tracey I hope you manage to sort out your loan.
