That printer supports wireless, USB and Bluetooth.
If you said what laptop model then someone could advise it if has Bluetooth built in...
I suggest you connect by USB initially to see if the printer is functioning, then worry about wireless connectivity later.
Do you have the printer drivers for W7 on the install CD? If not then you'll need to download them form the HP site.
You need to give more info about what you have tried and what error messages you are getting.
Does the printer show up in Device Manager?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Just stay calm & follow the instructions ;)
If your wifi network has security like it should have then you will have to configure the printer so that it knows how to connect (which password to use etc), it's all in the manual.

    Hi
Well its not going well I am sooo upset the laptop after downloading from HP site the drivers it now told me what to do and the printer found the laptop after taking the usb cable out as it now found the signals for wifi from the ruter ( think that right )
come to print ( trying it out ) laptop is ok but not the printer ( nothing ) so when I press print on the printer it just gives me a blank sheet ,
when it all connected it did a wireless network test report print out which was fine only thing it said was to change network useing default
but have to get it to print first .
The main computer in the hallway is connected to virgin direct and when we upgraded to 20meg they gave us the router free which I have just opened as I am in the front room with laptop wires and printer

Why don't you start by connecting the printer to the laptop by USB and seeing if it can actually print? Forget about networking it for now, establish that it is mechanically functioning and that the drivers are properly installed on the laptop. Once you have done that, then you can try to set it up on the network.
Fault finding in a case like this is basically a matter of eliminating each possible area of failure one by one, but you seem to just be trying things at random.
You should also be able to do a test print from the printer without it being connected to anything-the manual will tell you how.
