Hi,
Hope someone on here may be able to give me some advice.
Bit long winded so will try and keep it simple.
Recruitment consultant 1 sent my cv to a company for a new business role, I was turned down for interview based on my cv that they sent.
Recrutment agency 2 send my cv a few weeks later to the same company for a account managers role and i got an interview.
company really liked me and were considering giving me a months trial. soundung very positive.
then agency a sent the company a threatening letter saying if they offered me a job that they would seek the introduction fee even though they didn't put me forward for the job.
consequently the company decided not to offer me the job.
agency 2 have told me to go to citizens advice and see what they say as agency 1 have no leg to stand on the introducer fee but have influenced my chances of getting the job,
just wondering if anyone has any advice on here as i cannot get to the CAB til tuesday.
any help appreciated, just wondering if there is anything that can be done

Sue them. They're not allowed to do what they did.0

That's ridiculous. It's not like you signed up an exclusive contract with them. B got you the interview, A didn't, A's fault. Nor are the company recruiting obliged to use any particular agency. Do they think they are estate agents or something?
Contact the company and see if you can persuade them to re-offer to you as the agency hasn't a leg to stand on. If not, sue the agency for loss of the earnings.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
Sounds like agency 1 are trying it on. It's nothing to do with them, it's between agency 2, yourself and the employer.
Contact CAB and then the company, the agency shouldn't be allowed to get away with this.Barclaycard 0% - [STRIKE]£1688.37 [/STRIKE] Paid off 10.06.120 -
They have no claim to the introduction fees and I believe you should talk to the CAB about this. Also talk to the company as the company should have dealt with the agency fees issue separately from your job offer and not have considered withdrawing it.0

Sounds odd to me - that the employer would withdraw an offer because of a dispute or threatened dispute like this.
Could it be a case instead of sour grapes by agency A...who has perhaps put the seeds of doubt about your abilities into the employers head?
I've had it happen to me before so know how low some recruiters will stoop.0 -
How did the first agency even find out that you had got an interview at that company through the other agency? Did you tell them?0

This (the agency cheek) is common - it's happened to me once and several colleagues too. In my case I'd got the job with an on spec application that took 6 months as they didn't have vacancies and kept me on file. Approximately 18 months after I joined an agency that did have my details from a long time back somehow twigged I was working there and tried to claim that they had introduced me.
But what's odd here is that the company didn't employ regardless and tell the agency to sod off - that's what our company has done in every case. In my case the recruiter and I both had records of our correspondence from the word go so they backed down when we laughed in their faces. Most companies would have confidence in their decisions and most companies also know what agencies are like - ours will not recruit permie staff from agencies because of these sorts of games.0 -
Agency 1 are probably well within their rights to send a bill if you were employed.
This depends on their terms of business that the company accepted when they instructed them.
Everyone above is completely wrong.Not Again0 -

Exactly.
The potential employer will have signed a contract with agency A that states if the employer employs anyone who they introduced (which they did as they sent your cv) they are entitled to their fee. That will have been signed by the employer.
Not actually that unfair in principle - otherwise what is to stop you going for an interview, set up through an agency, then agreeing with the employer they will reject you and that you should then come back a month later to avoid the agency fee? Agency fees can be anything from 10-30% or possibly higher is specialist.
Agency A are a bit thick though, they should really have wiated for you to have started employment and then moved in for their fee. Oh well.
The only thing you can do is tell agency A you will no longer be requiring their services.0 -
Agency A put the OP forward for one position. Agency B put the OP forward for a different position altogether. Had both put the OP forward for the same position then fine, but that wasn't the case here.0
