Boyfriend's birthday- need extra special 'emigrating' present

Hello

I hope someone will be able to help. Basically, its my boyfriends birthday soon and I want to get him something special. This has never proved to be a problem in the past but this year, we are emigrating so the gift has to be light and relatively small so that it can come with us!

His dearly loved Nan passed away late last year and I would love to give him a gift to remember her - I have a couple of good photos I could use. But I am a little bit stumped - I don't really want to give him a simple framed photo as I don't think thats very original but would be tempted by the right frame I guess.

What else could I do with a photo? Any ideas would be gratefully received! Alternatively I could do something entirely different - something that he could use in NZ (where we are emigrating to) but again I am stumped.

Are you close to his family and friends? If so you could do him a memories of home book, incorporating his Nan into it. Get people to write quirky messages for him to remember them by in your new life. Put in lots of pictures etc and make it really special and personal. My cousin did something similar for my 18th and i have treasured it ever since. Hope this helps.

    Hi Rebecca,

Thanks for a superb idea! I have just this minute contacted all my boyfriends family via email (or at least the ones I could find contact details for in his address book! I have asked some people to forward to others that I should have included!) and fingers crossed, I will get some interesting 'pasteable-into-a-scrapbook' items in the post soon!

    Thanks again!
