Child Tax Credits

Hi,

Can anyone help please?

Ive had the info through for our child tax credits and the amount we are due to be paid reduces dramatically when our baby is 1.

Is there any reason for this?

yes you no longer get the baby element once they reach 1

Yes i think rather than get the baby element and child element you only get the child one, which if memory serves me right is £545 approx.

Elements of CTC

£545 family element
£545 baby element [paid until baby's first birthday].
£2300 child element per child
£2715 disabled child element for each child who claims DLA or is registered blind.
£1095 severely disabled child element for each child on the highest component for care in DLA.

Yes because by 1yo a baby is eating solids, is no longer drinking formula milk, is not needing as many nappies in the day/night. Clothing also lasts longer as the age to size ratio is larger. So in a nutshell it doesn't cost as much as having a baby under 1yo.

Also whilst the child is under one, many mums are on maternity pay so the amount helps with costs for that year.
