Does anyone have a clue...

There's an amount of money been paid into our business account of over £500. It is shown as a payment from DCC-EDC-Benefits.
DCC could be Durham County Council but has anyone got a clue to what it could relate to. We are owed nothing from DCC and have not applied for any benefits. I think it could be a mistake.

    Hi There,

Yes we do but we are paid privately by tenants direct - not through council. Just realised that EDC will be Easington District Council where we have a property - but our tenants are not behind in rent or anything.
    Any ideas?

  • It's a wild guess, but tenants wouldn't need to inform you if they claimed LHA (housing benefit) and, due to processing delays, the first cheque tends to be big and go direct to LL. Subsequent (2 wekly) payments will go direct to tenant.Might be worth having a chat with them? They might be worried about telling you of a change in circs.

But that IS just a wild guess.

if the council uses the same policy as mine did..we were given a form to fill in with our landlords bank details etc...if the tenant already pays rent direct then they would have it
