NHS Bursary and previous years earnings

Hello
I was wondering if someone in the know can help me.
I am considering going back to University to do a 2 year DipHE in paramedic science with professional registration for entry in September 2011.
I am 26 and currently working full time and have been since leaving university in 2005. I live on my own in rented accommodation and do not have a partner or any dependants.
From the research I have done I had the understanding that if i secured a place the funding would be a non means tested NHS bursary. However, i recently attended an open day at one of the Universities I was interested in and was told that any NHS bursary I receive would take into account my previous years earnings. Is this correct as i was under the impression that it was not means tested or does this only apply to your parents if you are entering staight from A Levels?
Any advise would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Oh just to add that I already have a degree that I completed in 2006 for which i took out a loan which i am currently repaying through my salary.

If you class an independent student your previous income won't be counted. There's a bursary calculator on the NHS bursary website
though it's currently still set up for 09/10 academic year.0 -
Thanks Mrs Manda. That has put my mind at rest. I have looked at the bursary calculator and gone through the calculation. I would think that I would be classed as an Independant student. I was just a bit confused after what the tutor said and a little worried as its going to be hard enough ( but totally worth it) as it is
