How do I get the money from a refund on a credit card?

Options
Hi,

I recently booked a holiday on my credit card on behalf of a friend, he immediately gave me the money and I duly paid the credit card bill when it came through.

However! He had to cut his holiday short due to unfortunate circumstances and the holiday company agreed to refund half of the holiday cost. They will more than likely want to do this to the credit card! If they do, how can I refund the money to him as the money will show up as a credit and put my balance in a minus situation. Will the credit card company send me a cheque for the outstanding minus balance? ( Its a tesco credit card BTW).

Thanks

Sarah:)

They will if you close your accout with them.

Best you can do is aggree to pay the money back to your friend as you spend on the card. Pay him what you would have paid Tesco each month if you pay the balance in full each month.

Some card companies will send you a cheque anyway, if you ask nicely and explain the situation.

Give the credit card company a ring and explain to them whats happened. You may be able to balance transfer the cash straight into his account (hopefully there shouldnt be a fee for this as its a credit balance). If not ask them to send the funds straight back to the account you have linked with it (via DD I assume) and it will hit your account within 3-5 days. Much faster than a cheque
