laptop battery life

I have an acer aspire laptop its only about 8 months old when i leave it to charge and take it off charge the battery lasts for 5 mins then flashes done to 1 min remaining but when its first taken off it says 60mins remaining

If it's running Ok on mains power then it's fair to assume that the mains adaptor is Ok, so it probably is that the battery is at the end of its life.

Unfortunately, most manufacturers limit the warranty on their batteries to six months or less, and it's almost impossible to prove that the battery has not had a hard life, so it's likely you will just have to shell out on a new one.

Some laptops have a "battery calibration" feature which may help though - worth searching a bit to see if yours does.

Our Dell 1300 laptop started suffering low capacity after about 8 months. Full charge originally gave about 3 hours but it eventually went down to about 30 mins. Complained to Dell and after some email exchanges where I was asked to check various things they replaced it. I didn't have anything other than the basic free warranty but I complained that it was clearly not fit for purpose.
