Tesco - where do I stand

Sorry accidently posted this on the praise, vent etc board, hopefully it's now in the right place.
I ordered two pairs of sunglasses on the tesco glitch last weekend (was taking £20 off instead of 20%). They dispatched them on Monday, and took the money out of bank.
I have just received an email from Tesco saying thanks for my return, they have obviously asked for them back from the couriers.
Where do I stand with this? Surely once they've dispatched an item a contract is formed? I want to know my rights before I talk to them on the phone.

Tesco clearly state contracts are not formed until goods are dispatched.
The issue here is when is it dispatched. My take would be until the goods are outwith their control (i.e cant be stopped) they are not dispatched.0 -
The way direct works, is they get your order at the local DC they load up your order which changes the status to "In Progress" then when they scan your order it goes to dispatched (When its actually still quite far from being handed over to the home delivery agent or Wincantons (for delivery to your store). This may trigger the email to you saying its dispatched etc If they notice the glitch before its loaded I believe they can cancel your order if they suspect fraud or they get figity about it even if its been packed.
From What I've read re this glitch that they are considering some orders as fraud and cancelling orders.
As for your rights I really can't help you but I thought I would give a bit of insight into the machine that is direct
You have just scared me to death with the word fraud there

Alot of companies consider using these glitches as fraud, Don't worry! You won't have Scotland Yard knocking the door down at 5am

Just means they won't fulfil the order.
Phew! Thanks
I'll see if I can get anywhere with them on the phone with the t&cs but if not no great loss I suppose.0 -

Unfortunately there are people who take the offer too far, that ruin it for the rest of us. I can't see them classing two pairs as fraudulent, as it is quite reasonable for there to be two adults in a household.
I would accept the refund and forget about it.Gone ... or have I?0 -

The contract is complete on dispatch and receipt of goods.
You got lucky so tell them to take a hike.0 -
From what I understood they were still in the DC waiting to be dispatched so still within Tesco's control
Can I just ask what is DC? I'm not good with these abbreviations...
Also, don't know if it makes any difference, and I am not saying you are wrong at all, you sound much more clued up than me, but the tracking code for the delivery company works, and does say 'order generated'...0 -
DC = Distribution Centre depending where you are they might be using the same ones that supply stores with baked beans
As for being clued up I know the workings of how it works in direct. The tracking may work as thats generated early on in the process. As for the legailities of what theyve done I really don't know sorry.
On the tracking does it say "Customer Data received" or something?
Thanks!
It says something along the lines of order generated, around 11pm at night though I received the despatch email in the morning.0 -
They haven't received the parcel if its saying that and it was stopped before being handed over. Was the email a "Preparing to be dispatched" email or an actual "Your order has been shipped"? Its quite confusing on how they work, They are an odd bunch on that side of Tesco

I'll have to double check that one as the email is on another pc but checked previous despatch emails from the clothing side of Tesco's and I am pretty sure this one was the same. Title "your order is on it's way" and in the email it says:
Clothing at Tesco despatch confirmation - *****
Hi
We are pleased to inform you that we have dispatched items from your Clothing at Tesco order.
The new status of the items in your order is: Despatched0 -
I do hope you are going to roundly castigate Martin every time he mentions the dreaded word 'glitch' in his weekly e-mails.0
