    Depends what you're doing. If browsing or selecting items it's useful to be stood in the aisles looking towards the shelves. When paying, move to a till (self-service or manned, up to you).

    I'm also guessing that the OP's worked this one out for his/herself seeing as the thread was first posted in the 1950s.
