Scared... Help! (Online shopping)

Hi Folks...

I ordered an expensive (appliance) item from what initially looked like a reputable online retailer a week ago (I won't name them yet, as I don't think it's fair to bad-mouth them without me understanding my rights and their responsbilities here)

I ordered through them based on the fact they are ISIS and IDIS accredited (accreditation run by the e-retail industry body/IMRG), they have a genuine 128bit secure payment system (which also used genuine "Verified by Visa" security on my card) - therefore I felt that I had done enough to ascertain their 'reputability' and security.

Immediately after ordering I got a receipt from the payment merchant [SagePay], and a (very basic) order confirmation from the retailer.

Since ordering I have had to contact the retailer regarding delivery expectations as they hadn't confirmed when I can actually expect delivery (and it's a big item - therefore I will have to be present to accept it),

They are now messing me around giving me information like "we will deliver end of this week".. then next "will be delivered next week as we have logistic issues".

I've since researched the retailer online, and loads of people have complained about them on sites like pricerunner for never delivering, then failing to refund or at least taking excessive time to do so (sadly, most people haven't updated to advise what their ultimate outcome was)

My question, ultimately, is how protected am I here? Will my bank protect me if worst comes to worst and I don't get delivery and keep being messed around? (Barclays... paid with Visa Debit Connect Card)

The website says delivery is 1-4 days/72 hours as you are ordering & in FAQs (although not explicitly stated in T&Cs) and we're over a week now... how long should I wait before I start doing something... and what should I do?

Appreciate any help, guidance or calm-down pills you can provide!!

Ultimately I will promise to make sure I inevitably name the site, and the eventual outcome of whatever happens to inform others, be it a positive or negative ending!!

  • Anybody have any advice/thoughts on this matter?

I've still not received my goods... pretty convinced now that the retailer are bogus/thieves... I've been in to my bank today to request a Visa (debit) Chargeback, and they've told me I have to wait 30 days before they can mark the debit as disputed!! _pale_

I'm absolutely devastated by this... can't believe I was so stupid to buy without fully researching the retailer... and then not to pay on my credit card :(

I just hope I can 'rely' on the Visa Chargeback ultimately - I have read reports of people getting £500 chargebacks succesfully recredited... not sure what the criteria ultimately are for a succesfull claim? I did everything I felt I had to do at point-of-purchase to verify legitimacy of the retailer (checked their ISIS/IMRG accreditation [waste of time THAT is!]), paid using 'verified by visa' etc...

I dunno... it's just so sad how this can happen :(

You are just going to have to wait I'm afraid. You never know they may deliver.

Would you care to name and shame ?
