widescreen monitor

No, the biggest I can find is a 19" one (as I said in my earlier post). A couple of years ago you couldn't move for the things. The widescreen format is a retrograde step, IMNVHO...!Richie-from-the-Boro wrote: »I wasn't aware that Dell do a 22" / 24" [ his original question in the other thread ] in the old format ?
Also apologies for ms-stating Sally!
Later... By going into the Enterprise Business section on the Dell website, I can get up to a 20" monitor - just two of them! But £279 plus VAT?!0 -

It certainly is! My husband has a new all-singing all-dancing 46" Panasonic plasma and even he has to admit that the Tosh is a great all round performer. Tosh is a good company too because although the TV was out of guarantee, they supplied free of charge a DFS (don't ask me what that is!) module to replace a faulty one - would have cost me over £100.
You are a very helpful lot on here - thanks again!
I'll let you know when I've decided which one to get - still gathering info and reading reviews etc. etc.0 -

I agree - that does seem a bit steep in comparison with the others!0 -
Taking you back to post #7 on your old thread I mentioned that you can get a perfectly adequate monitor for 1/2 the price £150
We have now established that you are not on what we know as a widescreen TFT, but are indeed on a old style CRT
Last two points:
- unless you have some particular use, eg high power gaming / CAD / etc spending £300 on a top quality screen is pointless, you will never really get your money's worth from it.
- we each of us has at some point in the past have had problems getting our head around the widescreen format. Many years ago I too had a massive 6 SCART SONY CRT TV and a SONY CRT monitor and would not change to the new format, when I eventually did it took only a couple of days for my brain to adjust to the benefit.
Best of luck with your choice salthepal.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I try to be an even-handed poster and accept that you at times may not agree with these opinions or how I choose to express them, this is not my problem. Toshiba didn't do you any favours per se.Tosh is a good company too because although the TV was out of guarantee, they supplied free of charge a DFS (don't ask me what that is!) module to replace a faulty one - would have cost me over £100.
The DFS module (video processor) failure is a common fault, Toshiba just had to bite the bullet and supply the part for free or lose face over it.Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -
At last! Just ordered http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VH242H-Gaming-Monitor-Black/dp/B001TH8OYW/ref=dp_cp_ob_ce_title_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1276083967&sr=8-2

I have a 1920 by 1600 crt which I run at 1600 by 1200. I don't need widescreen - not for surfing or wordprocessing and not for programming.
The new formats are typically 1920 by 1080 - which means loads of 'improvement' in the dimension I don't care about and degradation in the dimension I do care about. Time i think to split monitors into 'meedia' and 'general' classes.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
