Failed MOT

Options
My car has failed it's MOT. Need 2 new tires, brakes pads and arms.

They gave me a quote of £209.77 inc VAT.

Is this a fair price?

Depending on the motor, it sounds very fair.

Ask for a breakdown of the cost - how much are they charging for the tyres?

Even for a Ka - it sounds about right to me.

You could do better sourcing parts from ebay or other motor factors, etc. But you'd spend more in time than you'd save in money.

Might get it cheaper or get better tyre's if you look elsewhere for the tyre's.
You really don't want to be driving around on cheap nasty tyre's if we have another winter like the last one.

The rest is probably fair IF the work really needs doing!

  • Thanks everyone!

Realised the £210 actually includes the cost of the MOT itself of £30 so work actually only £180 so gonna get it done tomorrow.

Sounds good but depends on what tyres they are going to use and if you're bothered about cheap tyres or not I suppose. I'd still be inclined to get another quote from another garage just for peace of mind sake and to weigh up my options. :)
