hi

my cuzin and his girlfriend stay together, the have a bought house, and a one year old, there not sure what they are entitled to, he works 39 hours a week with a construction company and she works 16 hours a week at a call center.

but now she is starting to get more stressed and she been off for the 39 weeks then went back to work, but she has been off alot cause of depression, so would it be better for her to go on benefits while her partner works

    Hi, they might be entitled to child and working taxcredit and help with any childcare costs. Theres a calculator on their website hmrc.co.uk that would tell you if and how much they would be able to claim

    If she stopped work she cannot claim any benefits other than the child tax credits and child benefit they are already getting. Also working tax credits depending on the income of her partner. They will not get any help with childcare with only 1 parent working also

    My cousin suffers with depression and working has helped her so much sitting around doesn't help with depression, has she been to see her GP and is she on medication or maybe seen a councilor ?
    If her partner is working 39 hours she will be able to claim child tax credits and i am not sure about medical benefits maybe someone else can help there

    If she has paid enough NI contributions in recent years she would be able to claim contribution based ESA if she gets a sick/fit/whatever it is called this week note from her Doctor.
