    Finally got Hijack this to sort itself out.

    Trying to run a full malware bytes scan rather than the quick one, but getting not responding on that too now.

    There had been a horrible grinding noise coming from the laptop as it boots up recently, but it has cleared now. Could that be the root of the problem? It was fine up to a couple of days ago.
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.

    Hard drive packing up? It's about 3 years old. If so, is it simple to replace/worth replacing?

    Laptops are not the easiest things to get into

    And youd need to reinstall the operating system etc once its in

    If thats what your thinking then you should start a new thread asking for somones advice on it and state which laptop it is

    That said, 1st thing would obviously be determine if it is the hardrive

    No, it will be a hardware problem.

    Could it be the fan making the noise or do you think it is in fact the hard drive?

    Eldest son suggested it could be the fan. How do I work out which it is?
