Hi
I'm clearing my pantry and have found an opened bag of bread flour and some old dried active yeast (from the days when I had a BM..possibly 18mths old!)
is it worth attempting to make a loaf? or will it definitely not work..and should be binned?

I think its the yeast I'm mor concerned about, I know it goes off and doesn't work as well just not sure if it's even worth attempting?0 -

Hi, Donna! Not seen you around for some time.
Try dissolving a teaspoon on sugar in a cup of warm (not boiling - or you'll definitely kill the yeast. Put your finger in, and if it's comfortable, it's fine.) Add a teaspoon of yeast and stir. Leave in a warm placve for 10 - 15 minutes. There should be a frothy head - if so it's fine. If not, chuck it!

Hi penny!!
Nice to see you!. I'm always hanging around somewhere here on OS even though I don't say much!
the yeast has frothed up lovely so I'm off to make my first ever batch of hand-made bread, so thanks for the advice.
Wish me luck!0 -
Excellent news! My children like to make "dough balls" that we get in pizza express. Take small balls of dough (larger than wallnut, smaller than golf ball IYKWIM), roll into balls, rise and bake. Eat warm dipped in garlic butter. Delicious!
