HELP NEEDED.
this morning we had a phone call from halifax saying we owe them £740. the story is we get help with our rent from the council and they put it in my g/f's book account then we go down and take it out , but since they have closed our local branch we have to transfer the money to my card account then take it out . my card got swallowed at a atm so we had to go into our not so local branch . we went to halifax to get the money out of the book account and they said because we had bought a old book with us the only way to get the money out is to close the account down. we didnt want to do this so they said transfer it to a old account that my g/f hadnt used in a very long time. so we did that . when we went back to the cashier she said the account has not been actervated and couldnt get the money, she called over another member of staff and she said we could take the money out but next time bring a passport . so we got the money.
5/6 days later we have a look online at our account and find that the council have put our back dated money in great we thought so we transfered it into my account after the problem last time .
now we get a phone call this morning saying we owe them £740 as it wasnt a back payment it was a mistake by the cashier (she was new and was her first day ) when we 1st went.
we dont know what to do now as we dont have £740 laying about .can someone pls help or give a bit of advice on what to do ?
thanks in advance
