Lg cookie kp 501 memory card advice please

Hi, i need to purchase memory cards for my kids birthdays,just want to check that i am buying the right ones! as a not up on this sort of stuff.
they have LG Cokkie KP501.
i have seen these on ebay, is this what i need and why do you need the adaptor??

I have a lg cookie and got mine from vodafone shop for £5, but you should be able to get them from any phone shop. i us my card in my pc with a card reader like this one

i have a card reader which says sd/mmc on one of the slots is that any good for them to use?
will look on vodaphone shop,thanks
