Hello again, i was hoping for some info on a couple of things

I have dug up the majority of the back garden lawn this year and planted some seeds.

Some things are doing well and others not, its very trial and error.

The soil i have is quite clumpy in the new areas and prob has a large amount of clay in it.

The peas, sugar snap peas, broad beans seem to be doing ok.

The sweetcorn i put in the ground did nothing and when i dug the ground up there were just the shells left, one had a wormy looking thing in it - yuck!
The 3 sweetcorn i put in pots are growing ok

Last year i grew some potatoes and in the space where they were potato foliage has grown - will there be potatoes at the end of the season from them?http://008.jpg

Sweetcorn rots in cold wet ground.

Yes there will be potatoes where potato plants are growing, funnily enough :D

If you mix some sand and manure/compost into the clay it will become much finer and a lot easier to handle and the seedlings will find it easier to become established. I found that when I planted seedlings into my heavy clay, if I put a small handful of compost underneath them it gave them a bit of a boost.
Potatoes are great in clay soil, they naturally break up the clay, so next year where the potatoes are should need a lot less work.

    Good luck with it all!

Nice idea :D and often quoted, but it's the act of earthing up and digging up the potatoes which helps break up the soil.

Adding organic matter in large quantities will help the soil greatly.

They're called "volunteer" potatoes and most people have them.
It's a good idea to get rid of them, as it mucks up a rotation routine.
