Barclays are directly lying on global alliance charges!

I recently went to the USA my barclays debit card didnt work in the ATM anyway so over the till i got only 280 usd, this stupid global alliance "no transaction charges" thing is a total LIE. I got back ,two charges!!! even if you read the web page they do ,they dont even hide the fact they completely contradict themselves....im thinking of going to Halifax and getting a fiver every payday for free.
I rang barclays and got waffle and the usual "its in your terms and con" apathy! WHY promote it as money saving when it aint!!!

That link suggests there are no transaction charges only if the card is used in an ATM (at Bank of America in the US)

The OP said the money was withdrawn over the counter, not from an ATM.

I noticed that but was trying to understand if it was in the Bank Of America because they might be able to argue the case with regards to the circumstances and hope that Barclays might refund one of the fees since the ATM card was not working

In that case, argue the case in that there was reasons why you had to use the counter service and see if they will refund one of the charges as a gesture of goodwill.

  • After a month wait ,they rang me up and gave me charges back. too right! barclays way of complaint is naff, you wait 5 days for a letter that fobs you off for a month anyway......if you ring the number on letter they say "youll have to wait the month" USELESS. I told them "pay it back or ill leave to halifax £5 a month account "
