Hi I will try keep this brief
My problem is with my left knee which gives me pain I have good days and bad the good days are when i don't use my feet the bad days are when im active the more continual the pain is. I have a medical note off my DR to inform the job centre plus i cannot do work that involves heavy lifting or prolonged walking which makes it priity hard and rules me out alot job opportunity but still I search on . I was told conflicting story's to what the problem is by 2 Dr's so need to discover the true origins of the problem. I was sent for xrays an have been told its flanging of the Carthage by 1 dr and by another authristus I was informed also that im too young to get a knee replacement this can not happen till im 50 at present im 40 yrs old.
My only treatment thus far was to be giving anti inflammatory which within days had my stomach in so much pain dullish horrid pain an intense intergestion I stopped using them. I visited my surgery again getting an appointment with 1st available Dr, this is how my Gp surgery works you ring on morning see who free an is slotted in that day, I explained the bad experience with anti inflammatory tablets and in a angry type voice this GP said "look do you want me to inject it" this he further explained the technique of injection a substance that will stop me feeling the pain. I told him i would consider this but really prefer to have the problem solved rather then mask it and get on with it. I really don't have problem with my knee unless im asked to use it, I drive a car so only have walk short distance to it, its when I have been on my feet a few days I start to feel it and it will be continual till i rest.
I really have no inspiration to go back see the DR having experienced the tone of voice of one of em I know I have a problem and the advice its seems is brunt it till ur 50 with the mask the pain injection and get on with it.. I will not be going down the route of tablets because i want preserve my liver and my stomach from ulcers with prolonged use their prescriptions, personalty id rather take my own advice and try keep of my feet as much as possible in meantime my job search is based on work sitting down.
Having said all that is it worth going through the seemly lottery of claiming DLA, what i cant seem to understand is the lower rate asks that you need assistance by someone when getting about outdoor where the higher rate says walking difficulty only , id have thought that would of been the other way round
If someone could advise me on weather it would be worth me claiming and if so ,what rate would my condition if any expect to qualify for
many thanks for any soul who takes the time in reading my query

First of all i would ask to see a different GP in the practice - As far as DLA is concerned, you dont have to be in pain or have difficulties 24/7. A lot of disabilities have good/bad days. You have nothing to lose by submitting a claim. The criteria for awards and rates is on the DWP website (as well as others) - have a read through and if you feel it is relevent, then it is worth applying. If you think that you dont have the problems listed, then it would not be appropriate to claim.
It appears that the first thing the DLA tend to do is to contact the GP. So I would get this sorted out first before you submit the claim. Hopefully a different GP will take time to listen to your issues and then your medical file will be up to date for when the DWP write to them.

If you have care or mobility needs requiring you to need assistance (if recieved or not) from another person then claim, but get help from CAB. If you dont then dont.
But you wouldnt be eligible for high rate mobility with what you describe as you are not virtually unable to walk, nor low rate as you dont need guidance or supervision. It doesnt appear from what you have written that you have any care needs related to it either?
Will say I have similar problems with my knees. Had surgery twice now on one knee & looking at yet another op next year as it's worse instead of better after surgeryI told DLA and they were not interested for the same reasons I gave above and I dont have care needs related to my knees. I already get DLA but thats because I have seizures due to epielpsy and have care & mobility needs related to that.

Good Luck, I have HMJS, and my joints are getting worse, You are very lucky in being told you can have knee replacement at 50, Im 34 and been told that I wont get a replacement till Im am 65 lol, and the only thing to kill the pain is a knee replacement.
My knee dislocates 5-15 times a day and my other hip and ankle also hurt. My wrist is very clicky and my thumbs now dislocate making writing hard.
YET I was turned down 2 yrs ago for dla becuase I can walk 200yrds with a stick.
I am applying again as my mobility has got worse, struggle walking, driving ect, soem days canmt use stick as its my right thumb that dislocates and my bad knee is my left knee

well to say i can walk 200yrds id say yes but its like having toothache when doing it servere discomfort when doing so...this is what the gov,org site says
your disability is severe enough for you to need help caring for yourself or someone to supervise you, for your own or someone else's safety, or you have walking difficulties, or both
a mobility component - if you can't walk or find it very hard to walk, or you need help getting around
the only help i need getting around is use of my car without it be in alot more pain then im going thro at present and im finding harder to fund keeping my car on road been unemployed at present the extra income would help keep my car on the road i was thinking.
As for needing help there is times when even working clutch on my car hurts mostly winter times and times ask my friend to drive for me but im frighten to mention this in case i have my licence revoked
yet the advice giving seem to be your judged worthy only if you cant walk 200 yrds despite the pain thresholds endured which seem are not considered0 -
You can get a tablet that counter acts the stomach pains when on anti-inflammatory.
Or try another anti-inflammatory there are a fair few to choose from.
It took an MRI to diagnose my knee problems.
The injection is a cortisone injection they were offering, been there done that got the t-shirt, did nothing for me.
Go and see another Doctor.0 -
Sorry about the problem you're having, must be awful and not finding anything that has eased it yet that you can tolerate
But if you are uncertain about what could be the cause of your knee problem, why not ask one of the more pleasent mannered GPs in the practice if it would be possible to get a referral to a rhuematologist to see if they can shed any better light on the problem as they'd be better clued up to find out if it is cartlidge problem or not

Why on earth don't you switch to an automatic?0 -
I have arthritis in both knees and I can't take Ibuprofen due to having an operation on my stomach years ago. My doctor has prescribed Voltarol gel to rub on my knees and I have to take paracetamol for the pain. It's not an ideal solution but it's better than nothing, but I was under the impression that you must keep mobile with arthritis or the joints will cease up altogether, so I try to walk as much as I can even if it means putting the gel on and taking the tablets prior to walking.
I doubt if you would get DLA just for a bad knee, I wouldn't even try, and as for not being able to work, how do you think people who are really disabled manage to work, because a lot do.

I use Arnica Gel made by SBC (google it)0

You won't get turned down for DLA just because you can walk so many metres - I know someone who gets it for mobility issues and answered yes to that question because they can walk that far. They'd never be able to go that far and walk back again and they'd suffer for doing it, but they can actually walk it iyswim?
Sorry to say this but you appear to be hindering yourself, op!
You have decided you won't take pain killers and would rather do nothing even though most people with arthritis find it gets worse if they don't keep as active as they can.
I'm afraid it seems like you don't want to work and your GP feels frustrated by your negativity.0
