P60's

Options
Evening All, I knew i had a question to ask on here about a month back but had totally forgotten about it :o

My son works for the bbc and was paid through an umbrella company (as their employee) the umbrella company proved to be a right pain in the butt, late payments, argument over expenses, and retainment of holiday etc etc, so he switched to another umbrella company (as their employee also) on the 26th of March, the previous company didnt send him a P45, but he just filled in the P46? that the new company gave him with his information pack.

Now he hasnt received a P60 from the previous company, but did get one off his current company ( even tho it was only for a week or 2 pay)

Should he have received a P60 off the previous company or not? I think he might have paid to much tax whilst under them,

Can anyone advise on what I/he should do ( this is a mum that does all his paperwork, expense sheets etc :o )?

Sorry if I have posted it in wrong place, was seeing another thread about a P60 that jogged my memory lol

Cheers

A P60 is due from the employer who employs someone on 5 April.

As above - the P60 he received will include all earnings etc for the relevent previous tax year and will therefore cover all employers during that time scale.

Sounds like he did the right thing moving from the previous company - best of luck for his new job.

....sorry forgot to say. If you have a query about the tax paid then contact HMRC who will have a look. He may have been put on an emergency tax code for his new employment because he didnt have a P45 showing his current tax rate.

HMRC can adjust it if this is the case.
  • Thank you both, :) he was put on correct tax code 647L , would that mean that he isnt due any tax rebate? I find it all very confusing....and especially how umbrella companies work lol, took me ages to work out the breakdown of what he actually gets :o

From what you have said the 647L code used was the emergency tax code almost certainly applied on a month 1 basis. This may have resulted in the correct tax being deducted; but may have resulted in too much or even to little tax being deducted. Can you advise the gross figures and tax deducted figures from both employments?

Hi there, I cant give the gross figure or tax deducted from the 1st umbrella company as he didnt have a p45 ( he used them from sept to end of march this year) and I cant get my hands on his 1st months wage slip from his current umbrella company at the moment until later this evening. But his wage slip comes in 2 parts, the gross that the company paid him, minus all of the expenses, fees, employers ni etc etc. Then the 2nd part shows his gross, minus tax, minus ni plus expense i think? I must admit the 1st umbrella companys wage slip was a lot easier to understand lol. I will search them out later.
    Thanks for your reply :)
