Q re Sky+ Box

Hi There

Just brought a Sky+ from Ebay which didn't include the user manual and have a couple of questions.

1) Does the sky+ box need to be switched on in order for it to record?
2) If I switch the sky+ box off at the mains rather than leaving it on standby, will all the settings be lost?

Thanks for your help.

    1) As long as it on standby it will be able to record. However if you turn it off at the wall it will not be able to do anything
    2) All settings you save should remain even if you turn of at the wall

If you aren't already a Sky+ subscriber, be aware that you'll need to phone up sky to activate the Sky+ recording features on your account. Otherwise it'll only work like a normal Sky box. Could be an extra monthly fee, unless your channel package includes premium channels. They'll probably also need to link/marry your viewing card with the new box.

    Thanks for your replies.

I have tried recording a few times now but the only way it'll work is if I have the sky+ box turned on and if I have it already tuned into that channel. For example, it won't record if the sky+ box is switched off and it won't record if I have it switched on but am watching another channel. Any ideas what's up? Pls don't tell me it's faulty!!!!!

When you installed it did you have an extra LNB added to your dish? I think you need this to enable watching one channel whilst recording another.

What's a LNB and where can I get one? Do I need to get the sky people out to install it? Will they charge for the installation? Sorry for all the questions:confused:

So if I buy this LNB thing will it enable me to leave the sky+ box on standby and still be able to record the program that I have pre-set it to record?

    Many thanks.

To record two things at once or to record one channel whilst watching another you need to have two feeds from your dish to the Sky+ box. You will need a dual-output or quad-output LNB (the block on the end of the dish arm with the wire coming out of it), and a second cable from the dish to your box (if you currently only have one). Hope this helps.
